50p, Radiohead's new genius?
Radiohead’s new album’ In Rainbows’ proves that boundaries can be broken, and the donation technique might make more money in the long run. But is it a quick way to fame and fortune?
Being only ten tracks long, the money they make will definitely cover the cost of recording, but, might not make much profit .The main argument is that Radiohead's new album is practically free, if you don’t mind downloading it, although, without a computer or internet access, that isn’t possible. However, if you do, then the disc is released into the public in January 2008. On the plus side, Radiohead’s box set may cover costs, as it is £40 and sold 1.2 million when it was first released.

The work on Radiohead's new album started in 2005, however, most of the songs had been completed by 2006 and even played in Radiohead's 2006 tour, playing their new songs such as 15 Step and Bodysnatchers. We met Radiohead while they were on tour during 2006 and gave them a quick interview. The interview was mostly dominated by their lead singer, Thom York.
“Hi Radiohead”, I say as I spot them at the end of the concert in Reading. “How did you think then concert went for you?”
“Very good thanks”, Thom says. “I hope the fans enjoyed it and got their moneys worth”.
“So, what’s the new album situation? I’ve heard that you are releasing a new one soon.”
“Yes we are, it has been developing for about a year but it isn’t quite finished yet”, comments Jonny Greenwood, the bands lead guitarist.
“Can I have a hint of what it might include?” I ask.
“Well, we played some of the songs tonight and we have some saved up, but we are going to write some more songs soon”.
“Thanks for the interview guys!”
Well Radiohead's new album is a big hit. Even if you want to buy the disc, waiting a few months is your only option; however, the better option is to download it for nearly nothing. If it is as good as any of their other albums, then it will make good sales anyway, plus the big sales of the box set will give them an enormous profit. When the CD does eventually come out, they will be rolling in their money. And finally, there will up and coming concerts to play in, and am sure that Radiohead will be participating.
