Pete talks Shotters Nation

Pete talks Shotter’s Nation

Pete Doherty has been in and out of the news a hundred times over the last year. Now, he talks to us about rehab and the new Babyshambles album…

“The album,” says Pete “was more of a well oiled machine… The band was more of a unit so the production was easier. This time we just got together and everything happened on its own.”

The producer of the latest album was Stephen Street. Pete speaks of how his influence helped form the newest album.
“He was a brilliant producer, but we were not as productive as he would have liked. In the end he sat us down and said “guys, I like your music. But if you don’t start working harder, then I’ll have to leave you.” We bucked up our ideas then. Pete laughs. He seems much better now he’s out of rehab.

Pete, tell me about rehab…

“Well,” Pete stops and looks confused “I’m not going to say that it wasn’t a struggle, because it was but I’m pleased that I can admit it.”

Pete was in a rehabilitation centre in Wiltshire for a while where he was only allowed to play his guitar for two hours a day. The only thing he said was: “It was hell…”
The band has swapped the regular guitar riffs for more jangly tunes, the recognisable wails coming from Pete have turned into well trained vocals where you can actually hear what he is saying. The album is brilliant and any self respecting ’Shambles fan should agree with me, Pete has turned around his reputation and fronted a brilliant record.

A correspondent caught up with Pete this week:

“So Pete, how are you felling about the new album?”
“Well I think I speak for the whole band when I say that I’m absolutely chuffed with it.”
“And how was Stephen Street? It must be very special to work with someone who has helped put people like Damon Albarn and Morrissey in the limelight?”
“Well, he’s brilliant he knew just what he wanted and more importantly just what we wanted…”
“So, how do you think the public will take to the album?”
“We are happy about it, so as long as we can pay off our bills to the recording studios we’re fine. It would be nice to make a bit of profit at the same time.”
To download the album (legally) you can go to the babyshambles website:
